A lot of my main characters have curly hair. In one of my
works in progress, the girl's hair is the main source of her
insecurity, and therefore plays a big part in the book.
I'm not sure if the fact that I have naturally curly hair plays into
this commonality (my mom said the picture that linked you
here looks like me when I was about twelve) or if it's just
coincidence, but on recent edits of LOSING FAITH, my editor
pointed out that FOUR of my major characters had similar
curly hair. I had never noticed that! I went back to work, and
now you'll notice the curly hair is not nearly as prevalent!
