Local Author Offers New Dark Tale for Teens
On the tails of TWILIGHT and other successful paranormal stories, teens looking for the next dark and
compelling subject matter can look to LOSING FAITH, a new title from Simon & Schuster's teen imprint,
Simon Pulse. In this lyrical, emotionally intense debut, a teen encounters more questions than closure
while mourning the sudden death of her sister.
Denise Jaden, author of LOSING FAITH, says, “I will never look at Kool-Aid the same way after
researching the poisonings of the Jonestown cults.”
Jaden’s experience as a youth group leader lent her insight into the spiritual searching of teens.
“Teens want to figure life out as much as adults do,” Jaden says. “Maybe more, as evidenced by the dark,
searching books that have become popular in the young adult market.”
Denise Jaden started with a seed of an idea and wrote the first draft LOSING FAITH in 21 days. It began as
a challenge for National Novel Writing Month (www.nanowrimo.org), where each November over a
hundred thousand people around the globe attempt to pen a novel in a month.
“The idea flowed and was so compelling even for me,” says Jaden, “I just couldn’t stop writing until I found
out what happened.”
Jaden’s stories have appeared in Mississippi Crow Magazine, Tidepool Fiction, and The Greensilk Journal.
